PETER'S STORY
Peter Egan is a highly accomplished individual with a successful career in the healthcare industry and active involvement in his community. Having lived in the USA since 1971, Peter has lovingly embraced America as his own country. Married to Dr. Pamela Egan for 43 years, he is the proud father of four and grandfather of six. For three decades, Peter and his family have made St Tammany Parish their beloved home.
Peter holds a Master of Science degree. He has served for 8 years as Secretary-Treasurer of the Louisiana Public Facilities Authority which has issued billions of dollars in tax exempt bonds financing hundreds of industrial and economic development projects throughout the state. He has served on the Causeway Commission and was a commissioner of the St. Tammany Economic Development Commission. A 2006 graduate of Leadership St. Tammany, he served 15 years on the Republican Party Executive Committee, including as its Chairman in 2016.
One of Peter's notable accomplishments is founding Egan Home Health Hospice alongside his wife, Dr. Pamela Egan, in 1988. This company thrived and grew over 32 years, employing over 400 individuals with nine local offices. Egan Home Health Hospice developed an excellent reputation in the local and regional healthcare markets, leading to its acquisition by a large national provider. Before his entrepreneurial venture with Egan Home Health Hospice, Peter was an eight-year administrator for a prestigious psychiatric hospital. During this time, he gained valuable experience in managing complex healthcare operations and ensuring the well-being of patients.
Among his numerous career milestones, Peter is particularly proud of the development of his home health companies, which grew from humble beginnings to become an influential presence in the local market. From a very small beginning, they expanded to nine local offices and employed more than 400 professionals. The companies had an excellent local and regional reputation and were ultimately acquired by a large national provider. As a testament to his leadership and expertise in the healthcare industry, Peter served as a state home care association board member. He was honored with the prestigious Hall of Honor award in 2019 for his contributions and achievements. In addition to his contributions to the home healthcare sector, Peter served on the Pharmacy Advisory Board of the Joint Commission for ten years. The Joint Commission is the largest accrediting body for healthcare institutions in the country and sets the standards for all levels of healthcare delivery.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Peter Egan actively engages in philanthropic endeavors to give back to his community. He currently participates in an organization called James Samaritan, which supports and assists young people who age out of foster care. Peter is part of a group that forms a table, working together to provide guidance and resources to these individuals as they transition into independent adult life. In the past, Peter and his wife were actively involved in an organization called Safe Harbor. This organization provides shelter and living arrangements for women and children in abusive situations. Peter participated actively alongside his wife, who led the organization. Although their involvement is not as active currently, their commitment to positively impacting the lives of those who need it most remains a testament to their compassionate nature. Away from his professional accomplishments and charitable work, Peter has cultivated a deep passion for horses. For the past 30 years, he has been involved in various aspects of the equine industry. From breeding to quarter horse and thoroughbred racing, Peter has found solace and joy in his equestrian pursuits.
Peter's involvement in the equine industry began many years ago when he supported his daughter's horse passion. Her dedication to English riding led her to achieve fourth place nationally. Today, his daughter is a highly skilled head and neck and plastic surgeon who manages a horse farm. Peter enjoys participating in his daughter's equine endeavors and continues to nurture his love for horses alongside her. Additionally, Peter is currently engaged in another exciting project as he is developing a 1200-acre cattle ranch with two of his sons, further reflecting his connection to and passion for nature and animals.
Peter's love for his hobby extends beyond the equestrian aspect. He finds immense joy in the overall outdoor experience, appreciating the beauty of nature and the connection to the land. The interaction with horses, cattle, and everything associated with his hobby brings him a sense of peace, fulfillment, and a deep-rooted appreciation for the wonders of the natural world. Peter Egan's career achievements and dedication to his community exemplify his admirable character. With his successful ventures in the healthcare industry, active involvement in charitable activities, and passion for horses and nature, Peter Egan continues positively impacting those around him.
